Nellie Josephine Music
Nellie Josephine Music was born June 6, 1931 in Canute, Oklahoma to Katherine Marie (Schones) and John Patrick Kirk. She passed away June 2, 2019 at her home in Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 87 years, 11 months and 27 days.
Nellie Jo grew up in the Canute area and attended school at Holy Family and St. Francis before graduating from Canute in 1949. After graduation she cared for her nieces and nephews during her sisters illness. She was married to Abe Music at Holy Family Catholic Church on January 13, 1951. Together they moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Canute, Oklahoma and Pampa, Texas before returning back to Canute in 1969 to make their home. Nellie Jo remained in the home and cared for her family and children until their return to Canute and obtained employment with Walmart in 1982. She spent the majority of her time in the customer service department where she fit right in and it seemed as if she never met a stranger. In 1992 they moved north of Elk City to make their home. She retired from Walmart after 15 years and filled her time by traveling, square dancing, attending jamborees and spending time with her family and especially enjoyed her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 brothers, 2 sisters and 1 great nephew.
She is survived by her children, Danny Music, Elk City, OK, Patti Zimms and husband, Gary, Berlin, OK, Terry Music, Elk City, OK and Lisa Gowdy and husband, Steve, Canute, OK; ex daughter-in-law, Janie Sue Carnes-Music. Her grandchildren that called her "Granny Jo", Brad Zimms and wife, Robin, Tuttle, OK, Chad Zimms and wife, Lisa, Berlin, OK, Amanda Gowdy, Ft. Worth, TX, Stefanie Leland and husband, Beau, Jones, OK, Teri Dawn Music, Weatherford, OK and Dustin Music, Elk City, OK; 8 great grandchildren, Nicole Zimms, Kolton Zimms, Alexi Guin, Hannah Zimms, Rylee Zimms, Jacob Zimms, Oliver Leland and Violet Jo Leland; 4 great great grandchildren, Gracie, Hayden, Kashton and Jaxton; 1 brother, Clifford Kirk, Elk City, OK and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family suggest memorial donations be made to the St. Matthew Women's Guild or Senior Citizens Center.
Prayer vigil services will be held Thursday, June 6, 2019 at 7:00 P.M. at the Whinery Funeral Service Chapel officiated by Deacon Paul Albert. Mass of Christian Burial services will be held Friday, June 7, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Matthew Catholic Church officiated by Father Swamy.
