Short returns to Elk City to head Western Oklahoma Family Care Center
When duty called, Brenda Short answered to become the Executive Director of the Western Oklahoma Family Care Center in Elk City. She is not a stranger to the organization or Elk City because she was around in the beginning, as they were looking for a more permanent home.
“We (Short and her husband Michael) were here from 1998 to 2011. We moved to Bridgecreek and I took the position on April 1st,” she explained.
Short knew Neva Pyatt and her work when she lived in Elk City the first time. When the previous director, Belinda Graham, resigned, Pyatt reached out to Short to take the job. Short responded by talking it over with her husband.
“I said I had to talk it over with Michael. We really liked it in Elk City and he can do his job from wherever he wants to. I wasn’t working, when she asked if I was interested. We talked about it and prayed about it, so we moved back so I could take this position. It is a passion,” Short said.
She began to think about what has happened since she left and where the organization is now. She is impressed with how it all has worked, working together. There are some things she has on her short list to tackle, but overall feels positive about how it works.
