Museum greets visitors from Barcelona
As a family of four come into Elk City’s Old Town Museum, Cindy Wood is able to greet them in their native language, Spanish. The trip, being a present from the father, Anton Barnadas, was in the planning for over a year. Anton and his sons Anton and Pau along with his grandson, Xavi started their journey in Chicago to travel Route 66.
“We rented a car on Monday and will finish our trip on next Tuesday,” the junior Anton explained.
Anton was the only one of the four who could speak very much English. They were surprised when Wood spoke up to help interpret the questions for the travelers. They were very interested in the history of Route 66 and seemed eager to see the rest of the museum grounds.
“I like the history of the country and the people. We like to see the things that we have seen on American televisions shows,” he continued.
They had questions about the Native Americans and where they might be able to find out more. They were also curious as to people waving as they drive by.
