Fire destroys Sayre hotel

    A huge billow of smoke filled the sky at the north end of Sayre last Thursday shortly before noon when a call came in to the Sayre Fire Dept. that the WindGate Extended Stay Hotel just off of NE 66 at 701 Iowa Ave., was on fire.  

  Firemen from Sayre were on the scene first followed by assistance from Elk City, Delhi, Erick, Sweetwater, Berlin, and Cheyenne fire departments.  Witnesses on the scene at the onset of the blaze said the fire appeared to be concentrated on the top floor toward the east end of the building.  Approximately 40 firemen and 11 trucks from area departments battled the huge inferno for six hours but were unable to save the structure from being destroyed.
