Boy identified after being listed on NAMUS
A social media firestorm unleashed last week after a post from the National Missing and Unidentified Persons, or NAMUS, released a photograph of young, blond haired boy and a statement that he had been found five months earlier in Erick, Oklahoma. The NAMUS post said he had not been listed as missing anywhere else and had not been properly identified.
He was listed as having blonde hair and brown eyes, weighing 35 to 40 pounds and standing between 2 feet 10 inches and 3 three 2 inches tall.
As statewide news agencies picked up the story and Facebook shares ignited to viral status, the Erick woman raising the young boy says she was both enraged and dumbfounded by how this happened.
“My friend was over at our house and people were driving by really slow,” Jennifer Smith recounted. “I said, ‘I wonder what these people are doing,’ and she said, ‘Jennifer, you know they are here trying to get a look at your son since that went out.’”
